Jason Isaacs, who celebrates his 54th birthday today, has become a pop culture icon of late between his performance as NDE-obsessed scientist Dr. Hunter Hap in the Netflix sci-fi drama The OA, to his upcoming role as Captain Lorca in the first CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery and of course as Harry Potter nemesis Death Eater Lucius Malfoy. Somehow, he also makes time to meet face to face with his hoards of fans at various comic cons including one in Kansas City this spring where Leaky was lucky enough to meet him.

During his panel discussion in Kansas City, Isaacs praised The OA as one of the best shows he has ever seen. Though Netflix announced in March that they had renewed the supernatural series for a second season, Isaacs’ return has not been confirmed. Below is an ominous trailer released by the network earlier this year. Leaky thinks the breath sounds that can be heard in the last few seconds of the video just might be the man himself. Let us know what you think!

With his usual brilliant sense of humor, Isaacs has doled out a handful of hints on social media about his part in the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, but has managed to keep the finished product under wraps. The top image of the actor in Starship garb is a digitally altered one and Isaacs was mysteriously absent from the show’s first trailer, so fans will have to wait to see Captain Lorca unveiled.

At Planet Comicon, Isaacs made it clear that he is very grateful to be part of the Potterverse and even praised Leaky fans for helping keep the magic alive. He told a wealth of Wizarding World stories including how Lucius got his infamous look, what it was like working with “the trio” of Radcliffe, Watson and Grint, and bringing guests to the set, engineering his character’s demise and a few of his favorite Potter-isms; favorite movie (Chamber of Secrets), favorite line and character he originally planned to audition for.

And although  Lucius and his former house elf parted ways long ago, he obviously still carries a torch for the little guy:

We wish Jason Isaacs a very Happy Birthday and in response to his signed note above to Leaky readers, we think you rock too, sir!

Keep an eye on the sky for Isaacs as Captain Lorca this fall in Star Trek: Discovery. Maybe we’ll get a sneak peek of him in costume soon!
