Supplies
Brown worsted weight yarn
Yellow or tan worsted weight yarn
G/6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook
Stitch marker
Pencil or pen
Tapestry needle
Instructions
With brown yarn, ch 3 and join to form a loop.
Work 6 sc in loop, but do not join.
Sc in each sc around until the desired length. (6 sc)
Fasten off.
Head
Round 1: Using a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round, join the yellow or tan yarn with a sl st and sc in each sc around. (6 sc)
Rounds 2-3: Work 2 sc in each sc around, in back loops only. (12 sc, 24 sc)
Rounds 4-6: Sc in each sc around, in back loops only. (24 sc)
Rounds 7-8: Sc2tog around, in back loops only. (12 sc, 6 sc)
Fasten off.
Ears
Using yellow or tan yarn, join with a sl st to the side of the head on Round 6.
Ch 1, dc, sc.
Fasten off.
Repeat on other side of Round 6.
Mane
With brown yarn, sl st into Round 1 of head.
Round 1: *Sc, ch 3 in sc**, repeat from * to ** around.
Rounds 2-6: *Sc, ch 3 in sc**, repeating from * to ** around, turning at the ears.
Rounds 7-8: *Sc, ch 3 in sc**, repeat from * to ** around, including top loops.
Fasten off.
Finishing
Using appropriate colors, embroider the lion's eyes, nose and mouth on the front of the head.
Weave in all ends.
Insert pencil or pen
