Character Motto Contest

Hogwarts’s school motto “Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus” (“Never
tickle a sleeping dragon”), but have you ever wondered what a
character’s motto would be? What short saying would Hermione have that
would express her guiding ideal or principle? What about Harry’s? More
interestingly, what would Snape’s be? How about Aberforth’s? Your first
contest of 2011 is asking you to come up with a motto of any of the
characters mentioned in the Harry Potter books.
“motto”: A short sentence or phrase chosen as encapsulating the beliefs
or ideals guiding an individual, family, or institution. (Oxford
13 years of age and over may enter the contest, including staff members
who are not involved in the judging process.

- All submissions must be the original work of the
contestant. Any entries found to contain the work of another author will
- All entries must meet PG-13 standards of
decency and good taste.
- All decisions by the judges are final.
first place winner will receive a handcrafted wand donated by Wizard
Wood Wands (design changes each month) and 200 MyLeaky points.

- Create a motto for a character in the Harry
- You may use any character you wish, so be creative
in who you pick.
- Mottos are to be no more than 10 words in
- All submissions must be e-mailed to
firstname.lastname@example.org by 11:59 pm (EDT) on January 31st, with
“Character Motto” in the subject line of the e-mail.
copy-paste your motto into the body of the e-mail and include a name to
be used for authorship (real name or Leaky Lounge name).
