The young adult and adult alumni of the Harry Potter movies have all been keeping busy lately, taking part in everything from the small screen to charity training and everything in-between.

As we reported back in June, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) will be joining the cast of the third season of the television show The Flash, in which he will play a detective–one Tom hopes to be of the “opposite” of the good guy role some would say he’s long overdue.

Of the role, Tom says:

“He’s a forensic expert, so he treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at. Hence they have a slightly abrasive relationship at first. […] He’s not familiar with me, but I’m familiar with him, so it’s an odd dynamic. It seems like a love/hate thing at first.”

As many other Potter stars have done before him, Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) is taking on Game of Thrones. The actor is the first to be cast for the show’s seventh season, and according to EW, the only thing we know about Jim’s role so far is that it’s “significant.”

Hufflepuffs and Herbology fans are in for a treat–Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout) is a confirmed guest at Nottingham EM-Con’s third year. The convention will take place on April 29 and 30, 2017, and tickets can be purchased on the EM-Con website.

As part of her involvement with the Team Domenica project, Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) has launched a “training cafe” in Old Steine to help adults with learning disabilities study and prepare for the workforce. The café opens to the public on September 12, with four additional locations along the south coast in the works. Learn more about Team Domenica on the official website.

Of the project, Julie said:

“I wanted to help in any way that will help Team Domenica succeed. It is a fantastic idea and an incredibly worthwhile idea which is much needed.”

The talented Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney) is reportedly in talks to play a part in the upcoming film The Children Act, directed by Richard Eyre and based on the novel by Ian McEwan. The film follows British High Court judge Fiona Maye and references the “Children Act” of 1989.

Below is a brief synopsis of the film:

“Judge Fiona Maye is so involved with her cases that she hears that it often strains her marriage. But one case is of particular difficulty — that of a 17-year-old boy who is suffering from leukemia and does not want to be forced to have possible life-saving blood transfusions because it goes against his religion. The case causes internal turmoil for the wise and compassionate judge who must choose between the bright boy’s right to choose and the possibility of a future.”

As always, we look forward to hearing about all the new projects of the Potter alumni! Thanks to our friends at Mugglenet for the heads-up!
