The new issue of Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at Katherine Waterston as Daniels in the upcoming movie Alien: Covenant. The sequel to the 1979 movie, Alien, will follow a crew of a ship who discover a new planet, what they don’t realize is that with the discovery of the planet comes some very unfriendly features about the planet as well.

If 2012’s kinda-sorta Alien prequel Prometheus was confusing, Scott says this film will provide some answers. “Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why.” says director Ridley Scott.

Michael Fassbender will be returning as his Prometheus character, David. Alongside him will be Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollet, and our own Katherine Watertson as a character called Daniels.

Katherine gave high praise to director Ridley Scott in the article EW put up yesterday. “He’s a master! He’s got the energy of 10 25-year-olds,” she says. Plus, “he’s sadistic. He loves the thought of making people scream in a cinema.”

The Slanted also interviewed her about the role, during which she praised Ridley Scott’s personality on set of Alien: Covenant. Waterston calls Alien ‘Ridley’s vision’, a complete world with no detail left unexamined. She says Ridley is  rigourous about creating the perfect image, but is open to actors bringing elements of their own sense of the character they’re portraying to the big screen.

Her character, whom she calls a ‘natural born survivor’, was a vehicle for exploring self-discovery. Watch the full interview below:

Alien: Covenant opens in theaters May 19, 2017! You can see more in this weeks issue of Entertainment Weekly, as well as on IGN.
