The Awards season is in full swing with the People’s Choice Awards coming up January 18th, following close on the heels of the Golden Globes this Sunday. This will be a true celebration for the fans with an astounding 64 categories in play. Notable among the nominees are Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald) and Game of Thrones, which features many Harry Potter alums!

Johnny Depp is nominated for Favorite Movie Icon. His iconic status is irrefutable, so he would seem to be a shoe-in, but we’ll have to wait and see if the public agrees! If you’re in the mood to analyze his chances based on recent performances, he was seen in Alice Through the Looking Glass, also nominated in the Favorite Family Movie Category. And, of course, he can currently be seen in the latest entry to the wizarding franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

*Fantastic Beasts spoiler warning*

Depp’s brief appearance in the final scenes of the film qualifies as little more than a cameo, but it definitely left fans wanting more, and considering the leak of Fantastic Beasts sequel plot points, we’re sure to get it!

Leaky reported that Albus Dumbledore will seek out the help of magizoologist Newt Scamander in tracking down Gellert Grindelwald. This means Grindelwald will have undoubtedly escaped MACUSA custody and returned to his campaign to free wizard-kind from oppressive secrecy–all for the greater good. This means Depp will have another opportunity–and more screen time!–to display his unique mastery of portraying charismatic and slightly-unhinged characters.

Game of Thrones is also nominated for Favorite Premium Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series. Over the course of its six-season run, you’ve probably recognized the familiar faces of Natalie Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) who played Osha, David Bradley (Argus Filch) who plays Walder Frey, Ciarán Hinds (Aberforth Dumbledore) who plays Mance Rayder, and many others as minor characters. Fans can also look forward to seeing Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) join the popular series in a significant role when it premieres its seventh season this summer.

For the full list of nominees, read the People’s Choice official announcement, and tune in to see if these wizarding representatives worked their magic on the viewing public!
