Film crews were spotted on Barrow Island today at the Crow’s Nest pub filming scenes for the upcoming BBC One TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s popular book series about detective Cormoran Strike.

Holliday Grainger and Tom Burke, playing Robin Ellacot and Cormoran Strike respectively, as previously reported on by Leaky, were seen outside the Crow’s Nest on the corner of Ferry Road and Stanley Road. Grainger was also seen driving a Land Rover around the front of the building and then later entering the pub.

The Island of Barrow is visited by the two main characters in the third novel, Career of Evil. Along with visiting the Crow’s Nest pub, the pair is also mentioned in the novel as passing by Barrow’s Craven Park rugby ground. A few other local landmarks are also mentioned including the Olympic takeaway, Barrow Grammar School for Boys and BAE Systems. The characters also eat in The Last Resort on Cavendish Street at one point in the novel.

Locals are excited to see filming bring attention to their small town. According to the Northwest Evening Mail,

“Mike Stephenson, the owner of The Last Resort, said the mention of his cafe in Career of Evil has led to overseas tourists from the likes of Japan and Sweden, and also UK visitors, calling in and asking about the book.”

Along with the image above, there is also a short clip of the old Land Rover passing by courtesy of Northwest Evening Mail:

Continue to keep an eye out for more filming and cast announcements as we await more information about the highly anticipated TV series!
