Emma Watson has done nothing but prove that she’s definitely the perfect Belle since her casting as the iconic Disney princess in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. The final, extended trailer for the movie gives us a glimpse of Belle’s love for books (Hermione would love that library), Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts, more of Gaston’s arrogance, and Belle’s iconic dress makes a stunning debut.
Director Bill Condon gave a wonderful statement on Emma Watson starring as Belle, saying that she brings something new to Belle’s character through her ‘inmate intelligence’ and sophistication:
“Belle is someone who doesn’t really care about becoming a princess. She’s more interested in seeing the world and figuring out who she is than in finding a man and getting married,” Condon said in a statement.
He added: “We all know how intelligent and worldly and sophisticated Emma is, and while that doesn’t describe Belle, it is what Belle aspires to be, and it is the innate intelligence that Emma brings to the role that is such a crucial element when you’re doing a live-action film.”
Emma Thompson featured in one of the moving posters (which are a lot like Hogwarts portraits), and in this new trailer she voices Mrs Potts wonderfully, contending with the original hearty voice of Angela Landsbury in the 1991 classic. Landsbury previously said of Thompson’s debut as the ‘new Mrs Potts’:
“It will be interesting to see what they do with it. These are live action pieces and I know very well the actress who’s playing Mrs. Potts and she’s a very good friend of mine. It’s Emma Thompson.”
