Actor Birthdays, News, Rickman

It’s been over a year since the brilliantly talented Alan Rickman passed away, yet fans and stars alike continue to pay tribute to this amazing man and actor.

His friend, actress Kate Winslet told a touching story to Entertainment Weekly shortly before the one-year anniversary of his death as reported by Leaky here.

“He was always a great big softy. If there was one word I could use to really describe Al, it would be kind. He was so kind. At Al’s memorial, Juliet Stevenson told the story of how whenever Al would go out to supper and anyone else would try and pay, he would somehow have phoned ahead or slipped his credit card ahead of the meal so no one even got a look at the check,” she added. “He’d just say, ‘I’ve got two words for you: Harry Potter.’ And he became known for doing that.”

And Rickman’s Facebook page which still seems alive and well, with hundreds of “likes” and thoughtful comments like this one written the day John Hurt, Harry Potter’s wandmaker Mr. Ollivander died :

“Two great actors reunited now on a different stage, RIP”

There were also numerous articles written on the recent anniversary of Rickman’s death like this one from Leaky.

Regular followers of the Potterverse, certainly still feel his continued presence in the award-winning phenomenon that is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the stage depiction of the eighth installment of the Potter series focused primarily on Harry’s son Albus “Severus”.

Last week, Rickman made news posthumously when a mini-sequel to the popular film Love Actually was announced as a fundraiser for Red Nose Day, an event that was originally created to support the British charity Comic Relief. See Leaky’s recent story on the excitement about the reunion and Harry Potter alum Emma Thompson’s possible involvement in Rickman’s absence.

In honor of what would have been his 71st birthday, here’s a chance to take another look at some of Rickman’s most iconic character portrayals from a montage posted by CNN the day of his death:

Most Potter fans still agree that no one could have brought Severus Snape, one of the most tragically human characters in modern literature, to life as flawlessly as Alan Rickman.

Happy birthday Sir, you will forever be missed…..Always.
