This Week on J.K. Rowling’s Twitter

Okay, J.K. Rowling tweets a lot. She is the Queen of Twitter. So what makes this week so special? In addition to announcing a Gala event of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (parts I and II) to support her children’s charity, Lumos (learn more here), J.K. Rowling also retweeted photos from the Harry Potter play that may reveal a new Hogwarts logo, had fans puzzling over her header photos (again!), and did something extra-extra special for an adoring fan. (She has reached out many fans in the past with a mention on Twitter, but this was extra heart warming.)
The Harry Potter play has slowly been revealing little hints and pictures of the stage performance of the eighth Harry Potter story. This includes drawings of new Hogwarts robes, wizard hats and a giant snitch built outside the theater, and a video message from our beloved J.K. Rowling urging everyone to keep secrets.
In the spirit of keeping secrets, obviously nothing too juicy is going to be revealed before the plays begin. For those who don’t have tickets to see the play, all spoilers will be revealed in the publication of the Cursed Child script. However, a new tweet from The Harry Potter Play London has revealed new details of the Hogwarts set. It seems to be getting a slight make over, a subtle facelift, just like the Hogwarts robes.

The tweets revealed two pictures of hand carved sconces, and presumably a new H crest to represent the school. A quote from Christina Jones, the set director of the Harry Potter play, states that hand carved scones, in the same style as the sconces depicted, have been created for each Hogwarts House.
As we learned last summer, J.K. Rowling does no just change her Twitter cover photos to random images. Her J.K.R. header revealed hints and sneak peeks at the writing projects she was working on. Jo confirmed this week, via Twitter of course, that her cover photos always relate to her writing in some way.
All my headers relate to things I’m writing, but you shouldn’t take them too literally (no flamingos in Strike 4). https://t.co/cHmJRUQlGo — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) May 11, 2016
So what do slightly animated Ravens, un-dusted cobwebbed candles, and now pink flamingos in flight have to do with what J.K. Rowling is writing? If they are not to be taken to literally (like the JKR heading), how on earth do these things relate? Fans are puzzling over it. J.K. Rowling has reached out to many fans before on Twitter–offering courage, inspiration, consolation, and praise. She even took time to visit the book club of a Scottish Library that was a fan of her Strike series. Just when we thought her big heart couldn’t get any bigger, it did.

A fan wrote an open letter to J.K. Rowling, explaining her battle with self harming and assaults from bullying (the touching letter may be read here). She asked the author for “Expecto Patronum” written in J.K. Rowling’s own handwriting, so that she may get it tattooed to her wrist. J.K. Rowling read her letter and obliged. If you would like to get a tattoo of the picture, don’t worry, Kate / @AlwaysJLover won’t be upset. She invites other fans who have shared the same struggles, and need similar inspiration to use the picture from J.K. Rowling to get a tattoo as well.
I’m so beyond grateful, and blessed, to have someone as amazing as @jk_rowling in my life. She has one of the biggest & most loving hearts.?
