Halloween Down Under
November 18, 2009, 09:20 AMAs we all know, Halloween has just passed. Living in Australia, we don’t do much in the way of celebrating this holiday. At the most someone will have a dress-up party – at least, I will beg someone to have one! – but we are lucky if more than two people who make the effort to come in costume. Us Aussies are just too lazy! (Or easy-going, however you want to say it.) I spent the week leading up to Halloween kind of wishing I was American. Finding a pumpkin to carve was hard enough - $25 for an orange ‘Halloween pumpkin’! I’m not kidding! In the end I had to settle for a $2 grey pumpkin, but it still worked a treat. And not to mention the trick-or-treating. People are lucky to get a carrot if anything at all. So this year I decided to immerse myself in some costuming and pumpkin-carving all on my lonesome. Yeah, what a loser! But I had fun. I got to be creative and got to try a new craft, which is always a bonus! I’m asking all you fellow Aussie Leakyers, do you actually celebrate Halloween? Do you have awesome parties with costumes and decorations and fancy food? If you do, I am so jumping on your ship for next year! Crafty Witch Tammy (a.k.a. mixymo)
