Dear Real Life…

How you torture me! Don’t you realize all I need in my day is a little time to put my feet up and commune with some yarn or thread? It’s not very much to ask, I don’t think. Please consider me the next time you have some serenity to spare.

Thanks much,

Rosemary / Quietish

It must just be the crafter’s lot in life to be eternally juggling one’s interests with Real Life. I hate to write about it really, when all I do on my own neglected blog is complain that I haven’t had time to update there. Truly though, the current and future state of my crafting is severely affected by Real Life. That’s the way it is.

Currently it is the summer and I don’t have to, say, run the kids back and forth to school several times a day. Leading up to Summer I was excited about this. I anticipated having lots more uninterrupted time to finish up some projects and get a few more things out of the way before school then started back up. Somehow, this has not happened. If someone has the answer to that puzzle, I’d like to hear it.

The unfinished knitting and the disorganization of my crafty stash distresses me even more than usual because not only does my children’s school year creep steadily closer, but my own does. This year I will be going back to school for the first time in quite a few years. I am not sure what this means for my status as a crafter. I obviously won’t be a full-time stay-at-home knitter any longer, which will be quite the change. If I’m going to hold onto my crafty identity, I will need a plan. Let’s discuss.

My options appear to be:

1. Pray I happen to have large classes with tolerant professors that pass out pre-typed outlines and notes so I have hands free to knit during lecture.

2. Make it my policy to complete all homework by Friday afternoon and spend all weekend doing nothing but crafting.

3. Save crafting for long weekends and in between semesters.

4. Quit crafting altogether and zip-tie my hands behind my back to keep them from flailing with lack-of-knitting.

I’m willing to take advice and recommendations. I’ve always been in awe of those that can work or go to school full time and still manage to be accomplished crafty folk. Leave me a comment here or email [email protected]!
