Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, News, Theater
The award-winning original cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is now memorialized on film. Their magical performance was captured Wednesday night while cameras rolled, marking the end of an incredible run before the new cast takes over May 24th.
Hypable reported that photos quickly surfaced to confirm the exciting news. First, a photo circulated of a sign notifying the audience that filming would be in progress during the show.

Photos of cameras and crew in the theater followed!

.@juniorfusspot More photos of yesterday recording! There were at least 6 cameras. Too many for just archive purposes? pic.twitter.com/pdUFORSunC

Though the sign indicated the filming was for archive purposes, Hypable suggested the film could be reserved for more than just posterity. Perhaps it will some day be made available to the many fans worldwide who will be unable to attend a performance, either in London or on Broadway, and would certainly treasure viewing the original cast in their now-famous roles.
If not for eventual sale on Blu-Ray or DVD, which may be outside the realm of possibility (even for the wizarding community), we can always hope it will be shown in a special theatrical screening, a move made by many other hit productions. National Theater Live has already broadcast Daniel Radcliffe’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and Imelda Staunton’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? will be seen in select UK theaters May 18th.
Unfortunately, there are no guarantees. The acclaimed original cast of Hamilton was also filmed, and that production has yet to see the light of day, tucked safely away, according to Lin-Manuel Miranda, in a “Gringott’s vault.”
The show is preserved w this cast & on the way to Gringotts vault. Grateful to everyone who made a complex shoot painless.
Rest easy, fam.— Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) June 29, 2016
Should any hints of a public release be detected, however, we’ll put out the word immediately–and send a patronus if need be!
