Weekly Round-up: Jessie Cave Shines at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Emma Thompson Narrates for Greenpeace, a New Single for Ezra Miller, Eddie Redmayne at 2000 Feet and More!

Another Wizarding World week in the books and throughout it we’ve been bringing you full coverage from last weekend’s stupendous ninth annual LeakyCon. We shared all the spellbinding conversation with Fantastic Beasts stars Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler and Percy Weasley, Chris Rankin as well as stories with the young actors and the series antagonists from the Harry Potter set. We even had an exclusive interview with Devon Murray, who played Gryffindor Seamus Finnigan. Also this week, LEGO released a video on the creation of that spectacular 6000 piece Hogwarts Castle out now for VIP members, and Foyles Bookshop announced a drawing for a signed copy of J.K. Rowling’s next Cormoran Strike novel, Lethal White.

Jessie Cave Performs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Jessie Cave, best known to Potter fans as Ron’s infatuated Half Blood Prince sweetheart, has taken the subject of her popular greeting card illustrations and 2015 book LoveSick, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival stage. Her one-woman show, Sunrise, that reflects the humor and whimsy of her drawings in dealing with her recent break up from the father of her two small children, has received glowing reviews like this one from the Edinburgh Guide,

“In all the Fringe shows I’ve ever seen, I’ve never seen emotion on stage quite like this. I started crying; the girl next to me started crying. This isn’t just a beautifully written, hysterical show about a break up that’s for the best, and how to deal when you have children. This is her real life.”

“Jessie may have shot to fame from her role as Lavender Brown in Harry Potter, but, in reality, she is a mother who sleeps with her children in, essentially, a giant pack ‘n’ play, a newly single woman confusedly navigating the Tinder-era, and an artist who carves her own career path using one-of-a-kind illustrations and her own brand of comedy.”

Jessie Cave can be seen in Sunrise at The Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh until August 26 then later this year at the Soho Theatre in London November 12-December 1.

New Children Act Trailer and Greenpeace Short for Emma Thompson  

Award-winning actress Dame Emma Thompson, who played Divination Professor Sybill Trelawney, is using her voice in the effort to encourage major food producers to disengage from palm oil suppliers that endanger rainforests and their inhabitants. Thompson narrates the new animated short, from Greenpeace called Rang-Tan, about a young girl and her orangutan friend who has lost his home in the Indonesian forest as a result of the palm oil industry. According to Greenpeace, 50% of the Borean orangutan population has been lost in the past 16 years. Take a look at the powerful message below spoken by Thompson:

A new trailer for Thompson’s upcoming film The Children Act in which she portrays a judge who must rule on a case about a teenager whose parents are against him having a life-saving blood transfusion for religious reasons, features the toll her work has taken on her relationship with her husband, played by Stanley Tucci. The Children Act opens in theaters on September 14.

You can see Thompson, whose new platinum locks remind us more of a certain pureblood Slytherin family rather than wacky Professor Trelawney, enjoying the red carpet at the premiere of her latest film:

New Music for Ezra Miller and The Flash to be Filmed at Leavesden

Fantastic Beasts Credence Barebone, Ezra Miller spends much of his time away from the set as a part of the Indie band Sons of an Illustrious Father, . This week Miller released a song under his own name for the first time along with producer and fellow musician Oliver Ignatius about humans often negative effects on the planet, titled “sadtown”. Ignatius said this about about the track to EW

“We gave ourselves a basic prompt, which was to write a pop song that was understandable and relatable as a love-lost ballad, but that was actually about the ecological disaster that is unfolding around us,”[…] “So it became kind of a break-up song — except the partner you’re breaking up with is a green earth.”

And Miller had this to say about the collaboration,

“Oliver is the reincarnation of at least four easily identifiable renowned musical conduits. I can’t tell him or you who but I can tell that If you don’t listen to his s—, you are missing something quite phenomenal. I am honored to share sonic space with this happy little sage.”

On Miller’s moviemaking front, Heroic Hollywood recently reported that filming for The Flash, starring Miller as the scarlet speedster Barry Allen, will conveniently, for the Wizarding World actor, take place at Warner Bros Leavesden, the studio home of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. After numerous creative changes, The Flash, is slated to begin production early next year, which may be followed by filming of the third Fantastic Beasts installment if the schedule reflects the production timeline of Crimes of Grindelwald.

Eddie Redmayne Takes to the Sky in The Aeronauts

The latest project for Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne is taking him to the skies, and this time there’s no use for a broom. Leaky recently shared a photo of the actor on set of Amazon Studios The Aeronauts, the true survival story of pilot Amelia Wren and scientist James Glaisher who in 1862, attempt to find the secrets of the heavens via hot air balloon. For those who thought there was a green screen behind Redmayne and his co-star Felicity Jones in this image, according to Deadline, producer Todd Lieberman shared some remarkable details on this official first look, as well as the film’s production process,

“A top priority for us on The Aeronauts is authenticity. With that in mind, we intend to do as much balloon filming in the sky as the weather will allow. This image was taken after we launched Felicity and Eddie 2,000 feet in the air, performing their scripted scene, while a helicopter captured it all. We’re fortunate that Felicity and Eddie have the nerve to do these stunts themselves as it authenticates our entire approach.”

We look forward to more images and news from the set of The Aeronauts and have our fingers crossed that Redmayne has his stash of Felix Felicis handy up high. Keeping in mind that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child playwright Jack Thorne, wrote the film’s screenplay, we can only hope he’s added a disapparation clause in case things get dicey up there for our Newt! Ralph Fiennes The White Crow Acquired by Sony Picture Classics

Good news for fans anxiously awaiting the next project for Ralph Fiennes, Harry Potter’s Voldemort. The White Crow, the story of ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev’s defection from the Soviet Union to the West in 1961, has been acquired by Sony Picture Classics for distribution in North America, as well as Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Scandinavia just as the fall film festival season approaches. According to Deadline, Sony had this to say about Fiennes work as director of the film,

“Ralph Fiennes has fully captured the times and early life of Rudolph Nureyev in the most thrilling way possible with the pulsing energy of the man himself. Also, The White Crow is especially timely. From Nureyev’s rich life experience in Russia and Paris to his suspenseful defection to the West, we are immersed in an authentic story we’ve never seen before. This is one of those rare movies that crosses so many borders culturally as a satisfying entertainment. We look forward to bringing Ralph’s movie to the public.”

And Fiennes seemed delighted about the deal as well,

“I’m really delighted to be reuniting with Michael Barker and Tom Bernard and the team at Sony Pictures Classics. It’s been a huge challenge to make this film and there’s no question that with their vast experience with such a wide range of films, SPC is the right home for The White Crow. It’s great news.”

Zoe Kravitz Appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Zoe Kravitz, who fans can’t wait to see more of in Crimes of Grindelwald as the third point in the Scamander triangle, Leta Lestrange, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week promoting her upcoming sci-fi action film Kin. Unfortunately there was no talk of Fantastic Beasts during this visit, but Kravitz did share stories about bowling with her new Big Little Lies co-star Meryl Streep and some interesting interactions with Prince when she was younger. Domhnall Gleeson Talks Star Wars at The Little Stranger Premiere

New York Premiere of FOCUS FEATURES’ ‘THE LITTLE STRANGER’, USA – 16 Aug 2018

Domhnall Gleeson, known to Potter fans as Bill Weasley, flew from London to New York for one night to attend the premiere of his latest film, The Little Stranger, a supernatural thriller based on the 2009 gothic novel by the same name. He stole that 24 hours away from the set of Star Wars IX in which he’ll reprise his role as the nefarious General Hux and as Variety noted, he’s donning his character’s recognizable sideburns to prove it. Gleeson said this about working with Star Wars director J.J. Abrams again,

“I loved working with J.J. before and now it’s great that he gets to come back and complete the trilogy,”[…]“You can look forward to J.J. doing what he does so well. It will be epic, but it will also be surprising.”

The Little Stranger, in which Gleeson plays Dr. Faraday, a physician who comes to treat a patient at a haunted estate, opens in theaters August 31. Star Wars IX, the next and final installment of the series, is due out December 2019.
